After coming out of the blocks trebleless and then having to watch Humphries pile in a 140, he responds with back-to-back maximums before pinning the 82 checkout in two darts.
We thought this one might be special and that's exactly how it's panning out at this early stage.

An impressive start from the defending champion, holding in 13 darts with a clean kill on Double 16, having narrowly missed an exhibition 132 checkout on his fourth visit to the board.
Van Veen wasn't too far behind but will be desperate to get the next leg under his belt to really settle into the tie.
